The Arctic Monkeys scooped Best Album for Whatever People Say I am, That's What I'm Not at today's Ivor Novello Awards which took place at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.
But the Sheffield-based band lost out on Best Song Musically and Lyrically to relative unknown, Scott Mathews, whose track, Elusive, triumphed.
Outspoken songstress Amy Winehouse won Best Contemporary Song with her autobiographical hit, 'Rehab' and Madonna picked up International Hit of The Year for Sorry which she co-wrote.
Other winners included Sir Elton John, who nabbed the Performing Rights Society's (PRS) Most Performed Work for I Don't Feel Like Dancing which he wrote for the Scissor Sisters, and London band The Feeling, who were named Songwriters of The Year.
A Moment Like This, sung by X Factor winner Leona Lewis, was awarded Best Selling UK Single and Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim) snagged Outstanding Contribution To British Music.
Peter Gabriel won the Lifetime Achievement Award and a Special International Award went to the legendary Quincy Jones.
Ice Age: The meltdown won Best Original Film Score, beating Casino Royale while Best Television Soundtrack went to The Virgin Queen.
