Coldplay are in the spotlight again, this time under fire regarding the originality of their music. Small-time US group Creaky Boards' singer-songwriter Andrew Hoepfner posted a video on YouTube highlighting the similarities between Coldplay's title track 'Viva La Vida' and his own song 'The Songs I Didn't Write'.
Hoepfner said Martin attended a Creaky Boards gig in New York during October last year and added, "He seemed pretty into it... Maybe too into it?". Coldplay have denied the allegations stating their frontman couldn't have attended the concert in question as he was in London at the time. They also said 'Viva La Vida' was written and demoed six months prior to the gig in question. Producer Brian Eno has said the entire album was basically finished in December 2007. In better news for the UK group, the single at the center of the controvery has hit the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 chart this week. |
