Mistress Mabel

This ode to Mabel is a great up-tempo song that will doubtless perform well on the festival circuit this summer. It’s a bit ordinary if you mentally dissect the song into it’s component parts, but the energy and humour in it’s production means you can hear it stamped all over hot, balmy afternoons already.

The Chas ‘n’ Dave style piano licks are camper than a row of pink tents and the chugga-chugga guitar makes it an effortless crowd pleaser. A live version of this song will put the tame studio outing to shame in many people’s minds I’m sure, but wind down the window and turn up the volume and it’s immediately a feel-good festival tune. 6/10
