Let’s set the scene: I’m sitting at home, alone, it’s Friday night, I’m probably a little bit drunk and a spindly-looking man has just popped up on Jools Holland. He breaks in to a beautifully odd acoustic rendition of his song Grace Kelly and I love it. It’s the best thing I’ve EVER heard! Fast forward a year, and I have no idea what the hell I was thinking. Give me another year, and I may possibly feel the exact same way about this review as that shameful night with Jools, but for now I’ll go out on a limb and say I bloody love Alphabeat. This second single from the 80’s- inspired pop sextet is not quite as catchy or ecstatically feel-good as the previous ‘Fascination’, but it’s still a solid ‘let’s dance!’ pop tune. Whether it stands the test of time remains to be seen, but let’s hope it gives us a few good Nights yet. 7/10
