This year's Mercury Prize winners (and long-time luvmuzik faves) Elbow kick off their tour on Monday (October 6). The 14-date UK tour starts in Cambridge at the Corn Exchange and will wind up in their home town at Manchester Apollo at the end of this month. The five-piece band, headed by possibly the most likeable frontman in the business, Guy Garvey, have been well-loved by loyal fans for years - having been performing since 1990. But, until recently, they have never really received mainstream acknowledgement.
Their album 'The Seldom Seen Kid' has changed all that. Released in March this year, it was rated by critics and just last month received the highly acclaimed Mercury Prize. The album is enjoying a resurgence and has shot back into the UK charts, creating a lot of interest in this musically accomplished group.
Most of the upcoming tour dates are sold out, due in part to their recent fame, but also because they are an amazing live band. If you're lucky enough to get along to one of the October gigs, you will not be disappointed. The personable Garvey will entertain you and the soaring tunes that define Elbow will raise the hairs on the back of your neck.
